La Capitale Financial Group gives $70,000 in bursaries to support student-athletes’ Academic Excellence

Quebec, May 29th 2014 Mr. René Rouleau, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of La Capitale Financial Group, was proud to meet and present a total amount of $70,000 in bursaries to 19 student-athletes who distinguished themselves in both academics and athletics.

For the 5th edition, three young bursary recipients are identified Hopeful athletes by their Provincial Sport Federation and received bursaries of $2,000, eight of them received $4,000 as Elite athletes and eight others identified Excellence also received a check of $4,000.

Since last year, the bursaries are divided in two categories: Academic Excellence Bursaries, well deserved by 10 student-athletes, in order to reward great academic results and Academic and Athletic Support Bursaries, presented to 9 bursary recipients, in order to encourage the successful combination of sport and studies, a demanding challenge for many of them.

La Capitale Financial Group Bursary Program is dedicated to young promising student-athletes who have the potential to shine on the international scene. "La Capitale is proud to support the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence for the fifth year in a row. The grants we awarded today are in recognition of the discipline and hard work that the 19 student-athletes put in every day in order to excel. They also serve to help these young people continue their education while they compete at the highest levels of the sports they love." said Mr. Rouleau.

Mr. Claude Chagnon, president of the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence, added: « It is now the 5th consecutive year of this illustrious partnership between the Foundation and the bursary recipients from the La Capitale Bursary Program. Notably, 15 or this year’s 19 recipients are being renewed from last year’s program as they continued to fulfill the criteria becoming of the Foundation and its partners. This bursary therefore represents not only financial support for our returning athletes, but equally a nice pat on the back for another year of continued success. »

Bursary recipients must, on top of being identified in the Hopeful, Elite or Excellence categories by their Provincial Sport Federation, be engaged in part-time or full-time studies, which is often through high school, college or university programs. This bursary program is managed by the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence in collaboration with all the provincial sports federations.

The company, which is a prestigious sponsor of the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence since 2010, renewed last year its partnership by investing $300,000 until 2015.
