La Capitale achieves the LEED®-NC GOLD level of certification for its head office expansion
July 28, 2014 – La Capitale Insurance and Financial Services has achieved LEED® Gold certification for the expansion of its head office, located at 625 Saint-Amable St. on Quebec City's Parliament Hill. La Capitale is the first − and, currently, the only – property owner in Quebec City to have two LEED® Gold certified buildings. LEED® certification is achieved through independent review of design, construction, operation and maintenance practices, and it is recognized by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).
Following the completion of the head office in January 2013, La Capitale received a number of coveted awards: the People’s Choice Award, first place in the Commercial and Industrial Buildings category at the Quebec City architectural awards, and Best Real Estate Project award from the Urban Development Institute of Quebec (UDI Quebec).
Sustainable Development : One of La Capitale’s priorities
Before the construction of The Delta 3 (La Capitale's other LEED® Gold certified building located at 2875 Laurier Blvd in Quebec City, which achieved its certification in December 2010), La Capitale encouraged all its employees and service providers to adopt eco-friendly practices. Consequently, the expansion of the head office project followed a structured process based on a sustainable design and high performance objective.
La Capitale's 1,650 Quebec City-based employees, who – prior to construction – worked in a number of different offices across the city, are now able to all work under the same roof. They now enjoy a work environment that includes:
• Numerous indoor and outdoor bike racks
• Showers and locker rooms
• Sorting stations for recycling, composting and waste
• 60% green roofing
• An outside view in more than 90% of workspaces
• Green cleaning
• Walls painted with non-VOC paint
• Carpeting that meets Green Label program standards issued by the Carpet and Rug Institute
• A building constructed from regional materials, including stone from St-Marc-des-Carrières, a town in the Portneuf region. The same stone was used to build the Parliament building in Quebec City.
