Notre Dame de Paris: an international success
Notre Dame de Paris has been a hugely successful musical from the time of its début performance at the Palais des Congrès, in Paris, on September 16, 1998. The company then went on tour, performing in the major cities in France before continuing on to Switzerland and Belgium and then to Quebec, with 161 performances at the Théâtre St-Denis for a total of 334,142 admissions!
Songs that have become cult classics and a new live album
Many of the songs from the Notre Dame de Paris musical (with lyrics written by Luc Plamondon and music composed by Richard Cocciante) have become cult classics in French-speaking countries. In addition to the famous love song “Belle,” there’s the amazing “Temps des Cathédrales,” “Vivre,” and “Bohémienne.” The double album announcing the musical’s triumphant return to the Palais des Congrès, in Paris, in November 2016, is now available. It provides the full soundtrack of the musical. All 53 songs bring back the magic of this unforgettable masterpiece.
Plamondon & Cocciante: a dynamic duo!
In the early 90s, Luc Plamondon decided to base his new musical on Victor Hugo’s timeless historical novel. For months, he was absorbed in the intrigue of this mythical novel, which is well known worldwide. He then invited Richard Cocciante, with whom he had previously collaborated in the past, to accompany him on this new adventure and help him write all the songs for the future musical production. After three years of writing and composing, the dynamic duo were able to create a musical production that was slightly over two hours in length. They invited the renowned Gilles Maheu to be its director. The début performance took place at the Palais des Congrès, in Paris, on September 16, 1998. The public was instantly charmed by the intrigue. The musical was an international success. Even now, 20 years later, it evokes the same passion.
